Parting Schotts: NFL Pregame Show Week 9 Sound Bites: NFL Network's 'First on the Field and 'NFL Gameday Morning'

Here are the sound bites from NFL Network's "First on the Field and "NFL Gameday Morning" pregame show. The quotes are provided by the NFL Network PR department.

Quotes from First on the Field

- ?They are both playing quarterback and they are both black. That?s what it all boils down to?For me it?s simple: they are two totally different quarterbacks. After today, I want them to be compared to [players] they are actually playing like and not to each other just because of the color of their skin.? ? Sterling Sharpe on the comparisons between Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton and Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III

- ?They are going to get fired. Norv Turner is the guy A.J. Smith wanted. Three straight years of not making the playoffs is enough? If they don?t make it this year, that?s the end of the team.? ? LaDainian Tomlinson on the fate of Chargers head coach Norv Turner and general manager A.J. Smith if San Diego does not make the playoffs

- ?He is the most dominant player in our league right now?either offensively or defensively. If this continues, there is no way you can deny that man the MVP of the NFL award.? ? Sterling Sharpe on Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt

- ?He becomes the best corner on their team when he shows up in two weeks after the Buffalo game. For New England, it was basically a no-risk trade.? ? Michael Lombardi on the trade of cornerback Aqib Talib from Tampa Bay to New England

Quotes from NFL GameDay Morning

- ?He?s answered all of the questions I have?I don?t believe he?s 100 percent healthy in regards to [being] able to make all of the throws the same way he did a couple of years ago, but to be playing at [this] level, to be in control and to be figuring out ways to make all of those throws even when he doesn?t have all of the physical wherewithal that he had a couple of years ago, to me that answers all of the questions.? ? Kurt Warner on if Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning has answered all of the offseason questions about his ability

- ?He looks the part right now in every area: health, accuracy, arm strength, confidence ? the whole thing.? ? Steve Mariucci on Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning

- ?There is an identity that is at stake right now when you think about what the Ravens are, who they are and how the culture has been built around this team [and] this organization?Joe Flacco has to show us that he is the guy to this team to the promised land now because it is his time.? ? Marshall Faulk on the Baltimore Ravens

- ?These two rookie quarterbacks are exceeding everybody?s expectations and they have their teams in the playoff chase.? ? Steve Mariucci on rookie quarterbacks Andrew Luck and Ryan Tannehill, who face each other in Week 9

- ?Mike Tomlin takes these opportunities to display how great of a head coach [and] how great of a motivator he is. He is going to have these guys challenged.? ? Marshall Faulk on the Pittsburgh Steelers traveling the same day as the game

- ?He has proven that he can run the ball between the tackles, but now they need to use Reggie Bush as the accessory: get him the ball on the edges, throw him little screens ? get him out and about because he?s dynamic in space.? ? Marshall Faulk on how the Miami Dolphins get more production out of running back Reggie Bush

- ?You have to make this defense the catalyst of the football team. We always talk about, ?Tony Romo has all that he needs.? He does, but the defense, like I saw against the Giants, has to keep giving him opportunities to make plays.? ? Michael Irvin on the Dallas Cowboys

On New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton?s contract:
?The Saints and Sean Payton had agreed to a contract extension. However the league voided the contract extension saying language in the contract wasn?t appropriate and the Commissioner vetoed it, sending it back to the Saints and Payton to negotiate the language out. That hasn?t been resolved yet. Now, many people in the league believe that Sean Payton won?t be a free agent because even though his contract expires at the conclusion of the year 2012, most suspended players ? obviously coaches ? would then have their contract tolled. The Saints camp is saying this contract will get tolled; I?m sure Sean Payton?s camp would say there is no way you can toll a contract. But one thing we know for certain: these disputes end up where? Back in the Commissioner?s office because in Sean Payton?s contract, he has signed, in the old contract and the new contract, that the Commissioner has power over every employee in the NFL?s coaching contract and he would make the ultimate decision in this case.?

On if Payton?s contract is tolled:
?He would operate under the 2012 contract in the year 2013 if that?s the way the Commissioner went. He cannot take this to a court of law either. These are signed documents that say the Commissioner has the unilateral power to make these decisions in all cases of NFL club employees.?
