Modesto, CA ? More than 150 Firefighters and instructors representing at least 12 different Fire Departments from across California participated in a two-day training symposium Friday, October 26 and Saturday, October 27.? Since its inception in 2010, the Modesto Firefighter Training Symposium has provided the best training environment possible for local and state-wide firefighters.
The hands-on portion of the training took place Friday, and included tactics like interior search and rescue, engine operations, residential ventilation and forcible entry.? This comprehensive, hands-on training is unparalleled in the Central Valley as it provides attendees with a greater number of rotations through the tactical skills than many high-cost, out-of-state training options.? The more firefighters are able to repeat the tactical skills, the better equipped they are to keep the communities they serve safe while also ensuring the safety of themselves and their fellow firefighters.? In addition to the hands-on training Friday, an interactive Chief Officer workshop on ?Building and Operating a Command Team? was held and focused on extended operations, those large in size and complexity, and utilizing the management cycle as a tool to handle these situations as a team.
Saturday featured a seminar presented by Bill Gustin, a 29-year veteran with the fire service and Captain with the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department.? Gustin?s seminar, Modern Construction Challenges for Today?s Fire Service, examined how construction, design and fuel load of modern residences present new challenges and dangers to today?s firefighters.
This Training Symposium is produced and presented by a team of professional and dedicated fire personnel from the Modesto Regional Fire Authority.? The team plans and executes the Training Symposium mostly on their own time and, in an effort to keep costs as minimal as possible, aggressively seeks out partnerships and donations from throughout the region.?
